AI safety

Using AI safely

A few simple habits help you get the best from AI while keeping your personal information protected.

What not to share

Never include these in a prompt:

  • NRIC, passport or Singpass details
  • Passwords, PINs or one-time codes
  • Bank or credit card numbers
  • Detailed medical records or test results
  • Home address or full names of others

Good habits

  • Describe the situation, not sensitive details — 'a letter about my housing application' is enough.
  • Check important answers against an official source or a qualified person.
  • Treat AI output as a first draft, not the final word.

Know when to ask a professional

AI can help you prepare questions or understand general information, but it can't replace a doctor, lawyer, financial adviser or official source. For health, money, legal or official matters, confirm with a qualified person or the relevant organisation before acting.

AI can be confidently wrong

If something doesn't seem right, double-check it. AI can sound sure and still be mistaken.

Read before you share

Review any draft before sending it. You're responsible for what you put your name to.
